My Phan grew up in the tropical southeast Asain country of Vietnam in Saigon, where she first became interested in traditional herbs and their potential use in treating diseases. She obtained her B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, where she worked in the Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Processing (CEPP) of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology as a research assistant beginning in May 2019. Her main research was in the isolation and semi-synthesis of bioactive compounds from different parts of plants. She also did research on green synthesis of nanoparticles from plant extracts, which led to her interest in green chemistry. She began the Ph.D. program at Texas Tech University in the Fall of 2021, where she decided to join the Kristufek lab because of her passion for sustainable polymers.

In her free time, she loves watching funny pet videos and reading scientific books. She also loves dogs.
